Libbey
Libbey's most distant ancestor is the Boston Crown Glass Company of late 1700s. The company, later known as New England Glass, struggled to compete in the 1870s when the Libbey family became involved with the company. In 1888 they moved the glass works to Toledo, Ohio. Following World War II, Libbey Glass began focusing on the household market for glassware. Pre-packed sets of eight tumblers, "Hostess Sets," introduced in 1945, were especially successful, and by offering a variety of changing styles and designs, Libbey Glass became a major force in glassware. Libbey is still producing glass in Toledo, Ohio today.
